Musk Lorikeet
Trichoglossus concinnus

Trichoglossus concinnus
The Musk Lorikeet is a medium-sized, vibrant green parrot native to eastern and southeastern Australia, including Tasmania and Kangaroo Island. Known for their energetic flocks and bright facial markings, Musk Lorikeets are often seen darting through flowering eucalypt canopies in woodlands, farmland, and urban parks. Their movements closely follow the flowering patterns of native trees.
1. Bright red forehead and cheek patch, blue crown, and yellow wing band
2. Black bill with a red or orange tip
3. Shrill, rolling “krree” or “kirree” call, often heard before the bird is seen
Musk Lorikeets are found from southeast Queensland through eastern New South Wales, Victoria, southeastern South Australia, and Tasmania. They prefer open eucalypt woodlands, riparian corridors, farmland with scattered trees, and urban parks or gardens with flowering trees. These nomadic birds follow flowering events but tend to revisit certain areas more predictably than some other lorikeets. Look for them feeding high in the canopy, especially in flowering eucalypts, banksias, and grevilleas, often in mixed flocks with other lorikeet species.
