Oriental Plover

4 sections

The Oriental Plover (*Charadrius veredus*), also known as the Oriental Dotterel, is a medium-sized, long-legged migratory shorebird that visits Australia during the southern summer. Unlike most migratory waders, it prefers open inland grasslands and sparsely vegetated plains over coastal habitats. Each year, the species undertakes an impressive journey from its breeding grounds in Mongolia and northern China to spend the non-breeding season across northern and northwestern Australia, with smaller numbers reaching further south.
