Species Description

The Spotted Scrubwren (*Sericornis maculatus*) is a lively, small bird native to the dense undergrowth and coastal thickets of southern Australia, ranging from Adelaide west to Shark Bay in Western Australia.This bird is well adapted to life in tangled vegetation, where it is often heard before it is seen.

Spotted Scrubwrens are found across southern coastal Australia, from Shark Bay in Western Australia through to the Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, and coastal South Australia. They prefer habitats with dense, tangled undergrowth such as eucalypt forests, mallee woodlands, coastal heathlands, and thickly vegetated gullies. These birds are often located by their gruff, buzzing calls and are most active in the early morning, foraging low to the ground or in dense shrubs for insects and other small prey.
